* High Sierra is now hidden on the Mac App Store. It is still available, but it's hard to find. To find it, check out this video: Find High Sierra on App Store This video shows you how to create a bootable USB Flash Drive Mac OS X Installer. You will be able to boot most Macs from it and then install Mac OS X 10.13 High Sierra without needing to re-download the installer for each Mac. You can also use it to format the internal drive of a Mac using the built in Disk Utility, this is also covered in the video. You will need a 16GB or larger USB Flash Drive (aka USB key). Make sure it's empty, because you'll be deleting everything on it during the process of making the installer. If you have a problem downloading the full installer and you only get a 19MB file instead of the full 5GB installer, check out this article to show you how to work around that problem: 🤍 You will use a command in the Terminal. It is best to copy and paste it from here, just make sure you name your USB Flash Drive “MacInstall” (without the quotes). Here's a tutorial for making a bootable High Sierra .DMG image file for Mac OSX on win 10. I recently worked on a MacBook Pro Retina 15" A1398. It had the folder with the "?" in it and would not boot into MacOS. Using this method I was able to successfully install MacOS. Originally I planned to make a second video to this, but realized the steps to actually boot from the USB drive are super simple, (granted the USB drive is recognized by the mac and DMG file worked). Check out part 2 of this video! 🤍 Turn on the mac and wait until you hear the chime. Then press and hold the "OPTION" key until you see the boot menu pop up and it will list your drives. Apple announced a new version of the operating system for its computers today called macOS High Sierra. No, seriously! It will be available as a developer beta today, in public beta later this month, and it will roll out to the public for free this fall. "We talked to the guys and they said ‘this might be misconstrued,’ but they assured us this name is fully baked,” Apple’s senior vice president of software Craig Federighi said on stage. But the updated version of Apple’s macOS Sierra operating system promises to be faster, safer, and help applications use less space than ever. A big part of this will be Apple’s File System replacing the Hierarchical File System, which the company claims its own file system will be more safe and stable. It will also be much faster. On the performance side, Safari’s JavaScript performance will be 80 percent faster than Chrome’s, according to Federighi. Safari on macOS High Sierra will also will also get some security upgrades. The browser will use machine learning to identify and block ad trackers as you navigate around the web, and will be capable of blocking autoplay videos. The Mail application, meanwhile, will take up 35 percent less space than it has in the past. The Photos app is getting refreshed in High Sierra, too. Apple’s giving it an overhaul that takes what was mostly a photo management app with light editing tools and turns it into something that’s much closer to a Photoshop experience. The company promises it will be easier to search through your images now, too. Everything’s also going to look better on High Sierra. Apple announced a new version of Metal, it’s graphics technology, called Metal 2. A big advantage of the upgrade to Metal is that macOS will now be able to support VR — something Apple showed off by bringing Lucasfilm’s ILMXLAB on stage to demo a new Star Wars VR experience featuring Darth Vader.

MacOS High Sierra (10.13) is pretty lightweight in features. The biggest changes take place under the hood of your Mac and at this time it is only suggested that users with a solid state drive (SSD) even consider upgrading at this time. THAT being said, I strongly recommend NOT upgrading until this OS is out for at least a month. Anytime you are upgrading your Mac, you have to consider the risk/benefit factor. There simply aren't many improvements here, folks. Think it over carefully. Note: There are a few changes in High Sierra that I felt were frankly so dull that I didn't even feel it necessary to mention. Many of these types of changes could have just as easily been rolled out as a software update. If you have any bugs you'd like to report to fellow users, we invite you to leave a comment below. Reported Bugs (that we know about): * Some users have reported issues with Microsoft Office 2011. I have two Macs, one is a laptop which still has a copy of Word 2011. However, it may pop up a window with "The recovery server could not be contacted" error message. This might be caused by: 1. Poor network connection 2. Apple Server is unavailable 3. Wrong Date and Time So, here are 4 methods to fix "The recovery server could not be contacted" error. Solution 1: Check network connection The first common reason for this problem is a poor network connection. So, make sure you have connected your Mac to a stable network first. Or connect your Macbook to another available WiFi. Solution 2: Check Apple System Status When the Apple server is down, you can't fix the problem yourself. Before going to next method, check Apple System Status. Make sure the recovery server is available. If there is actually a problem with Apple server, wait for Apple to fix it. Solution 3: Reset Date & Time If you haven't turned on your Mac for a long time, the date and time on your Mac may not match with Apple server's. But we can't see date and time in Recovery Mode, so go to utilities and use terminal to reset date and time. Open Terminal, type the command: *date 0606144123* (June 6, 02:41pm, 2023). Then you can try again. Solution 4: Reinstall macOS from USB The last method is to reinstall macOS from installer. Before that, you need to create a bootable macOS installer first. Download the macOS installer from website or App Store on an available Mac. Connect a USB to your Mac, and use terminal to create a bootable USB installer. Once done, insert the USB to your Mac, restart and press Option key to open startup option. Connect your Mac to the internet and select the installer, you can reinstall macOS.
