In this episode of Shaping Your Journey, my special guest Mike Mainieri talks about growing up in musical family in New York and then playing professionally the vibraphone at a very early age. He went on to play with Buddy Rich and other great artists. He quickly became one of New York's top session musicians, a sought-after orchestrator and producer in the studio and he played and recorded with many jazz and pop greats including artists such as Paul McCartney.

#StepsAhead #Mainieri #Brecker I become completely obsessed with a video I found on YouTube recently: It's the song 'Blue Montreux' (Mike Mainieri) from a live concert in 1978 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. I decided to make a video about it - I analyze the song, talk about some of the things that happen in each of the solos and in the rhythm section. I tried to deconstruct it in a way that I hope will be enjoyable, informative and inspiring! If you enjoy this type of video, please let me know because this was a big experiment! I'm trying to create videos based on things that are currently inspiring me, and this is one of them. Mike Mainieri - vibraphone Randy Brecker - Trumpet Michael Brecker - Tenor Sax Warren Bernhardt - Electric Piano Tony Levin - Chapman Stick Bass Steve Jordan - Drums. This performance was also released as part of a live CD that came out under the Brecker Brother's name for Arista records - however only the trumpet solo is used on the record. On the album, there is a different vibraphone solo and NO saxophone solo. Here is a link to the original uploaded video on YouTube: 🤍
