An NVR vs. a DVR. What's the difference and which one should you choose? Well, you've clicked on the right video. When you're shopping for a video surveillance system, it can be confusing to know exactly which products to get. This is especially true when it comes to picking out your video surveillance recorder. In this video, we walk you through the main differences between a Network Video Recorder (NVR) and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). As a general rule, DVRs are used with analog video surveillance systems, whereas NVRs are used with IP security systems. But the full answer really isn't that simple. There are quite a few differences between these two surveillance devices, but it really all comes down to this question: how does each recorder receive the surveillance feeds? The biggest difference between NVRs and DVRs have to do with the video inputs. DVRs have video input ports, which are typically BNC connections. These video ports hook up to an analog security camera to receive the raw video footage from the cameras. It then does all the video encoding, processing, and analysis right there in the recorder. NVRs, on the other hand, do not have any physical video inputs. Instead of raw video through a cable, NVRs take all of its footage from the network. IP cameras, unlike analog cameras, do all the encoding and video processing within the camera. It then streams its video feeds to the network, where an NVR can pick up the streams. Hikvision NVR on Amazon: 🤍 Hikvision dome camera on Amazon: 🤍 Hikvision Mini PTZ camera on Amazon: 🤍 Blog: 🤍 I finally plugged in the NVR and powered it up and the beeping begins. 5 to be exact. I walk through the step required to Activate the NVR with a new password and I add a camera password. The camera password will automatically activate and set the password for any detected inactive Hikvision cameras added to the NVR. The unit has its own unique IP address on my network when plugged into my switch or router. Internally, on the NVR all cameras will have their own IP address on the NVR’s network. I format the hard drive which thankfully stopped the beeping. I show how the live view works and change the layout to 4 X 4. The PTZ and turret cameras I plugged into the unit’s PoE ports were automatically added and starting continuously recording by default. I check out the playback feature but I’m not impressed with the clunky timeline slider. Lastly, I notice there is a cool page displaying the wattage usage of each camera and the maximum wattage left for consumption.

An NVR with dual NICs (network interface controllers) can be a handy device if you know how to use it to its fullest potential! In this video, we walk you through the three methods for setting up your dual NIC NVR: net fault-tolerance (redundancy), load balance, and multi-address. Each of these methods have their pros and cons, depending on your situation. But 9 times out of 10, we recommend setting up your dual NIC NVR with a multi-address configuration. Here's a brief summary of the three methods. NET FAULT-TOLERANCE This allows you to set your NVR up with redundancy. By this, we mean you can set your NVR up on the same network twice. This is helpful, because if one of your ports were to stop working, you'd still have a solid connection with the other port. LOAD BALANCE Like Net Fault-Tolerance, Load Balance also has both NVR ports connected to the same network. The difference is, instead of redundancy, each port is balancing the load of the cameras to improve overall performance. If one NIC happened to stop working, you would lose about half your cameras, because in this scenario, both network ports are doing different things. MULTI-ADDRESS This is the most flexible method of setting up your dual NIC NVR. In this setup, your NVR's ports are set up on two different gateways. The first port is connected to your main network, while your second port is connected to a secondary switch. For this to work, the second port needs to have a separate gateway. This is an excellent way to get some or all of your cameras off of your main network and onto a secondary network, where it won't interfere with your bandwidth on your main network. Welcome to LTS Academy. From today, we’re going to show you how to connect the IP camera to your NVR. But first, we need to activate the NVR. Unboxing You will see an LTS NVR. A small box, which includes a power cord, a cat5 cable, a 3-year warranty, a QR code card, and a mouse for the NVR. Connecting the NVR to your monitor Use the HDMI or VGA cable to connect the NVR to your monitor. Connecting the NVR to the router Plug the cat5/cat6 cable into the NVR LAN port. Then connect the NVR to the router to get internet, so you can get the remote access to the surveillance system. Power on the NVR. Use the power cord in the box to power on your NVR. Then turn on the power button. If the NVR is powered, the ready light and Tx/Rx light in the front will be on. Connect the mouse to the NVR. Once everything is all set, you can activate your NVR in the monitor. It might take a little bit of time for the NVR to boot up. Account Settings Choose the language and resolution you prefer. Create your password and channel default password. The channel password is for the IP cameras. Set up the reserved e-mail, exported GUID, and security question for the password reset. Set your unlock pattern. If you want to skip it, just right-click on the page. Programming You can enable the DHCP or input the IP address manually. Activate the hard-drive if you need. You can activate and add your camera here. Enable the PT Cloud to get the remote access to the surveillance system. You can skip the wizard page by right-clicking on the page.
