Learn more about our partner, Wellspring for the World here: 🤍 Nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. We believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes, and we’re focused on providing clean water and sanitation to every man, woman, and child in every community we work in, including the most vulnerable populations in the hardest-to-reach places. Our Commitment: World Vision and our partners commit to expanding our reach from providing clean water to one new person every 30 seconds to reaching one new person every 10 seconds with clean water and sanitation by 2020, and then continuing at that pace for another 10 years until we reach everyone everywhere we work by 2030. Water continues to flow from World Vision water points because of our integrated community engagement model. One of the premier academic groups in water research, the University of North Carolina Water Institute, conducted an independent study examining 1,470 water sources in 520 communities located in the Greater Afram Plains of Ghana, where World Vision has been providing wells since 1985. Nearly 80 percent of World Vision wells studied continued to function at high levels even after 20 years, thanks largely to our community engagement model. Consistent with this community approach to sustainability, research showed that an identified water committee and evidence of charging a fee for use of the water were the main reasons associated with the continued functionality of the water points. These best practices, including training local people as mechanics to repair pumps when they break down, are part of the reason why World Vision wells set the standard for sustainability. World Vision in the Mid 1980s: - Large-scale famine in Ethiopia brings unprecedented public support. - The organization grows to a large enough size with enough resources and influence to respond to the epic famine that unites the world. Response includes immediate aid and a long-term recovery plan. - Due to inflation and administrative costs, World Vision briefly markets sponsorship to be childcare partners of a "representative child." Sponsorship rates go down for the first time in World Vision history. Sponsorship programs are quickly readjusted to retain one-to-one sponsor and child relationships, while streamlining and improving administrative operations. - Adjustments are made upon learning that community development projects can make progress more efficiently if work is funded by one support country instead of multiple support countries. World Vision in the Late 1980s: - Work expands beyond rural areas into urban areas; distribution begins of gifts-in-kind donations of product from companies. - By 1989, donors around the world sponsor 834,000 children and maintain 5,510 projects in more than 80 countries, with total beneficiaries at an estimated 17.2 million. - Well-drilling begins in communities, resulting in lower infant mortality rates. We often use clean water as an entry point into communities, in conjunction with other activities that create change. Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle travelled to Rwanda to witness World Vision’s water work. During her one-week visit to the country, she trekked to unclean water sources, visited clean water projects, helped build a well and met many Rwandans whose hospitality and stories have made a lasting impression on her life. Clean water does more than quench thirst, it changes lives. There are more than 663 million people worldwide living without this fundamental resource. Partner with World Vision Canada to help bring access to clean water in order to provide: 1) Health: When a community has access to clean water, sanitation and good hygiene practices, it helps improve medical services, like preventing infections and ensuring the healthy deliveries of children. 2) Education: School is one of the best ways to lift children out of poverty. But dirty water can cause dehydration and decreases a child's ability to focus and learn in school. 3) Food: Clean water is for more that just drinking. It's also integral to farming. When fields are properly irrigated, crop yields and livestock production can greatly increase. 4) Safety: In many countries in the developing world, women and children walk long distances to collect water. Day 3 of True Spirit of Christmas Tour 2010 in Tanzania 4 years ago your donations gave a family in Tanzania a goat. As it is local custom there, the first born of the goat's babies was given to the family's neighbor. This is the story of the neighbor family, the Mollel's, who are living proof of the ripple effect started by just one donation. We've partnered with World Vision to share hope and joy with children ‘Around the World’ this Christmas! Our new song hopes to encourage Australians to support 5,000 of the world’s most vulnerable children this Christmas, and help children everywhere feel strong and proud. The video features World Vision sponsored children, and aims to inspire children everywhere, whilst highlighting an important message about the pivotal role that food and education plays in a child’s wellbeing. While significant progress has been made when it comes to supporting the world’s most vulnerable children, more needs to be done. This year alone, World Vision reports that more than 50 million people – around half of them children – are at risk of starvation. With food insecurity the cause of 45 percent of preventable deaths for children under five, The Wiggles and World Vision are challenging Australians to transform 5,000 children’s lives around the world this Christmas through child sponsorship. Yellow Wiggle, Tsehay says, “We’re incredibly proud to use the power of song and dance to unite the world’s children, and support World Vision and those less fortunate this Christmas.
